I find funding opportunities and write compelling applications for individuals, institutions, and businesses. As an experienced grant writer, I have worked on applications for the Tri-Agencies (NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR), Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, and federal and provincial innovation funds for small business. I am here to support you and your organization's goals through strategic funding planning and well-written applications.
My editing process is thoughtful and meticulous, with an eye towards clear, accessible writing. Also, I am able to adapt my methods to a variety of different projects and audiences. Over the course of my career, I have edited a wide range of materials, from graphic novels to PhD dissertations to scientific papers.
I offer four types of professional services: proofreading, copy editing, substantive editing, and academic editing. These categories are based on definitions from Editors Canada and they are detailed in the table below. If you are not sure what service you need, or if you are interested in a customized service, please feel free to reach out to discuss your project!

I am a trained researcher with a Masters in Neuroscience and academic experience in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. I have worked with clients on multiple diverse projects that needed a skilled research approach.
A few recent examples: literature searches and annotated bibliographies, source analysis for a documentary film, a long term funding plan for a small business, and tracking down and communicating with copyright owners to reprint decades-old art in an upcoming book.
I love working on these unique projects so please get in touch!
Three recent clients were kind enough to describe my services.
"I feel very lucky to have worked with Avital Cherniawsky. She is an outstanding editor and very conscientious with her time and communication. She was very committed to responding to my queries, promptly returning work and explaining her process. She provided meaningful suggestions for the subject matter of the dissertation and was meticulous in double-checking quotes and references. Working within a tight time schedule, Avital showed great patience and flexibility to comb carefully through each page of the thesis. Importantly, she presented the highest level of professionalism and personal warmth amidst all of the labour. I strongly recommend Avital to anyone who wishes to create a document that is to be rendered for academic audiences."
"Tali’s work is wonderful and helpful. She is a huge asset to projects and is a delight to collaborate with."
"Tali kept us on task, dealt effectively with many hiccups, including covering for team members who weren't able to produce their deliverables at the last minute! I really appreciate Tali's professionalism: her calm demeanor, diplomatic sensibilities and ability to delegate effectively, even to the business owners! She interacted frequently with the funding agency, and was able to ensure that our application fit their written and unwritten expectations. Last but certainly not least, Tali is an extremely effective writer, and is able to ensure that all elements of a complex funding proposal are adequately addressed. I enjoyed working with Tali, and strongly believe that because of her contributions, we made our strongest possible case for funding."
